“FINISH HIM!” in the new Mortal Kombat game

“Get over here!,” it’s not just for picking up chicks anymore.  Everyday this week we’ve been hit with some type of Mortal Kombat news, and the latest announcement looks to make the fans even happier.

Mortal Kombat is rebooted, with video, after the jump!

Monday we were teased with a Mortal Kombat movie trailer, subtitled “Rebirth,” starring Michael Jai White as Jax and Jeri Ryan as Sonya Blade which stirred quite a mix of reactions from the fans.  It was later confirmed by Jeri Ryan’s Twitter and an interview by CraveOnline with Matt Mullins, the man who plays Johnny Cage in the trailer, that the short was made by independent director Kevin Tachareon to sell his idea to Warner Bros. No word is out yet on Warner Bros.’s reaction to say whether or not the film will actually happen, but it was good to see some sort of development on Mortal Kombat in general.

And just as our taste for fatalities was starting to rekindle in our hearts and fingers, Warner Bros. announced today that there’s a new Mortal Kombat game in the works, set for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2011.  Coincidence?

NetherWorld Studios will be working on the title, headed by Mortal Kombat creator and creative director Ed Boon, “This game really is a response to what players have been demanding: mature presentation, reinvented 2D fighting mechanic and the best, most gruesome fatalities ever!”

The traditional 2D fighting mechanic will have an all new graphics engine and fatalities are in full head-crushing swing with more creativity, blood and gore (just how we like it! Wow, we’re sadistic).  Some of the new features to come are tag team matches, co-op arcade modes, and deeper story plots.

Here’s the gameplay trailer right here:

Ahh I beat you to posting this on the forums by 3 minutes! That has to be a new record for me LOL. Anyways, this is the kind of Mortal Kombat I’ve been waiting for since Trilogy was released way back on the Playstation & N64. I did download Ultimate MK3 via Xbox Live but that didn’t give me the proper fix. If it plays as well as it is shown in the trailer, this may finally do the trick.

I know it probably sounds stupid, but I really want there to be a blood code. MK is the main reason why we have the ESRB. The gore in the original was so shocking to people that they required a code to unlock the blood. The SNES version had gray “sweat”.
