SG E3 2011: Kinect Previews
It seems like the word “Kinect,” or in general “motion control,” has become a dirty word amongst the “hardcore” gaming community. I personally do not want motion control shoehorned into every game in the future, although that’s something Microsoft has stated may happen with all its first-party titles. However, I also won’t deny that there were some games at E3 that used the Kinect device effectively and that I enjoyed thoroughly. Just the same, there were also some games that dropped the virtual ball.

SG E3 2011: Gotham City Impostors was Actually Fun
I will admit that I was a little skeptical about Gotham City Impostors when I first heard about it. I believed it was just riding on the coattails of the Batman name to garner attention for another bland first-person shooter. But the girl dressed up as a fake Joker kept urging me over to try out the demo as I played Mortal Kombat next to her. Her eerie voice, which seemed almost identical to that of the real Harlequin, convinced me to give it a go.I’m very glad I listened to that strange woman getting paid to stand there and lure people over.

SG E3 2011: Mass Effect 3 Brings on the Tears
If you don’t know the general story of the Mass Effect universe by now, that means you have yet to play at least one Mass Effect game. Therefore, we can no longer be friends.
Mass Effect 3 finally brings us to Earth to see the destruction the reapers are reaping upon our futuristic planet. It’s Commander Shepard’s job to gather space fleets from many solar systems to help save Earth, and in conjunction, the entire galaxy, from the reapers’ destruction. He is to accomplish this all while still getting laid on his lovable Normandy.

SG E3 2011: Vita Bends Gravity & Makes Sweet Music
Read More
While Lono snuck into the conference rooms to get some hands-on experience with the Vita, I was able to go to Sony booth’s VIP (thank you friends in high places) to also see if the Vita was worth the buzz it was receiving. Two games stuck out for me because of its interesting mechanics and innovation: Gravity and Sound Shapes. -
SG E3 2011: In Case You Were Confused about the WiiU (UPDATED)
Between finding something to eat and the show officially opening up in a few minutes, I’d like to touch really quickly (and oh so gently) on the recent Nintendo press conference. It had a very slow start, or it at least it felt that way for us in the liveblog, since it was concentrating more on Zelda orchestra music rather than actual game content. But then it got better with the announcement of games that the Nintendo 3DS should have launched with (Starfox 3D, Luigi’s Mansion 2, Mario Kart 3D, etc.). Then it was the time we were all waiting for: the new Nintendo system!
Or at least it’s companion: the WiiU.
UPDATE: The system is called the WiiU, the controller the WiiU controller. It doesn’t change anything about this article other than confirm the conference did cause some confusion for some of its audience. They never revealed details about the system itself, just the controller. (more…)

SG E3 2011: What We Hope For
Read More
With E3 only a week away, I polled the staff to see what everyone wants announced at this year’s event (even if some of their wanted games resort to wishful thinking). I personally hope for a Kingdom Hearts 3 considering the handheld games have disappointed me, as well as some word on Resident Evil 6. But both seem unlikely, especially with Capcom working on 3 separate RE titles: The Mercenaries, Revelations, and Operation Raccoon City. But oh well, those are just my wishes, let’s see what the rest of the staff hopes for! -
SG Review: Portal 2
Read More
The first Portal managed to catch the interest of many gamers with its unique take on first-person shooting and bending the laws of physics, all while promising you lots of cake-induced calories. Because of the first game’s awesomeness, people were weary of its sequel not living up to that same level of fun. Could Valve create another masterpiece? Are you better off buying a gallon of ice cream to ease your disappointment?
